These are the instances where the customer may request an item that is larger than the size you are able to print on your equipment, or, is larger than any substrate available. For example a large sign, billboard or poster.

In ePrint there are 2 methods available for large format estimating for these type of tiled jobs.

Option 1- Use the Large Format item type called Tiling and calculate the cost of the sign overall working on a Square Meter/Square Feet calculation.

or

Option 2 - Use the normal Square Meter/Square Footage calculation and create the estimate for each tile that is to be produced.

Scenario

A customer has requested an estimate for a single sign that is too big for you to print in one piece so you need to print it as tiles.

Option 1

Although the poster will need to be printed in a tiled arrangement, the customer only requires the cost of the single sign, the production team can determine the number and size of the tiles required.

Build the estimate using the Item Type, Large Format 'Tiling', this will allow the estimator to select the substrate, adjust the spoilage and enter the dimensions of the sign. (image not to scale or exact representation)  The dimensions of the sign can be larger than the substrate selected to print on and the system will accept this.

The total size of the sign is 4620mm x 1710mm.

To complete this estimate;

1. Create the estimate by selecting Estimates, Add New.

2. Complete the first page of the estimate, entering the customer details, selecting Large Format for the estimate type,  from Calculation Type click the drop-down and select Tiling

3. Complete the additional estimate details, then click Next.

4. The specifics for the estimate are then entered.

Note the options such as print layout and cutting table are not available. With the Tiled item type the production team will determine the most suitable options for layout and the number of tiles required.

Refer to the image and table below for further details on the numbered items, then click Finish.

In Finished Quantity enter a value of 1. (There is a single sign being quoted for this estimate).
Select the Stock from your Inventory list that is to be used by clicking the + (plus) symbol.
Enter in specifics relating to the spoilage. There is currently no option for this item type - Tiled to calculate wastage for entire sheets used, however entering specifics with spoilage will include this wastage in the calculation.
The values entered in Print Sheet Size will be the size of the Stock to be used. This is the size of the stock you are printing onto. The system will automatically populate this field for you based on the substrate ou have selected but you can also tick custom and put in custom dimensions.
The Finished Job Size is the size of the finished sign. In this example the values entered are 1710mm (width) x 4620mm (height)

The estimate will be detailed, and you will need to determine any additional costs such as cutting using your Other Costs.

In the Estimate Summery Screen the details for the stock and press will have prices calculated using the square meter or square feet dimensions of the finished sign.  The system doesn't know what size the individual tiles will be so it has not accounted for the specifics of the individual tiles, your production team will decide the most efficient way to produce the tiles to create the finished sign.

Option 2

As the poster will need to be printed in a tiled arrangement, the estimator determines the number of tiles that will be required, based upon the dimensions of the stock/substrate, so that when joined the single sign is created. (image not to scale or exact representation)

In this example create the estimate so the sign is quoted as a sign with 3 tiled sections. Internally this will be presented to the production team as 3 items to be produced. For the customer the estimate can be configured to show this as a single sign item without breaking it out into the separate tiles.

The total size of the sign is 4620mm x 1710mm.

The inventory roll that it is to be used has dimensions of 1750mm x 2 meters, you have decided that this will require you to produce 3 tiles.

Each tile will have the dimensions of 1540mm x 1710mm

To complete this estimate;

1. Create the estimate by selecting Estimates, Add New.

2. Complete the first page of the estimate, entering the customer details, selecting Large Format for the estimate type and completing the additional estimate details, then click Next.

3. The specifics for the estimate are then entered. Refer to the image and table below for further details on the numbered items, then click Finish.

In Finished Quantity enter a value of 3. (There are 3 tiles required for this estimate).
Select the Stock from your Inventory list that is to be used by clicking the + (plus) symbol.
The values entered in Print Sheet Size will be the size of the Stock to be used. This is the size of the stock before you begin printing.
Selecting custom you can enter in specific sizing if required, the inventory to be used for this example has dimensions of 1750mm (width) x 2000mm (height).
The Finished Job Size is the size of each tile. In this example the values entered are 1710mm (width) x 1540mm (height)
Clicking the Print Layout + (plus) symbol will display the proposed layout. The values in this field cannot be manually adjusted. The system will determine the most suitable layout based upon the selections made in each of the settings of this dialog box.

Note: If you see values in the Print layout dimensions of zero for Portrait and Landscape, the system is advising that the the size of the item you are producing is bigger than the sheet you are printing on. This may be due to the press restrictions that you have set, such as the gutter size, spoilage etc. These can be disabled by un-ticking the field above Print Layout referred to as Press Restrictions

Alternatively, you could make a different selection of stock.

The estimate will be detailed, similar to the image below.

Note the Finished Quantity is 3, representing the 3 tiles, however when sending this estimate to the customer it would be preferable to show the order is for a single sign.

Return to the summary screen. Click in Quantity Description, enter the value 1, then click Save & Stay.
