A Sheet Fed Offset Press is added to the system defaults, there are 2 steps to complete; 

  1. Setting the default sizes, dimensions and paper settings.
  2. Setting the running costs and inks for the press. 


This article will provide an overview of setting up a Sheet Fed Offset Press.


Adding a Sheet Fed Offset Press


1. Click the Settings cog (top right corner), then select ePrint MIS.



The window is arranged with a navigation pane on the left-hand side of the screen.


2. Click Plant and Presses, then Sheet Fed Offset, then Add New Record.



3. The first screen requires all the sizes and general default settings to be created. The table below will provide an general overview of these settings.


Note: Items marked with an asterix (*) are required in order to save the details of the press. 



**Note: This screen is displaying imperial measurements, therefore it is important to ensuring the measurements are accurate according to your region.



FIELDDESCRIPTION
  • Press Name
  • Description
The name of the press is required and is the name that is referenced throughout system.
The description is optional, it is useful where there is more then one press or it is listed several times with different cost settings applied.
  • Set as Default Press
  • This Press can Perfect?
- Check this option to set it as the default press for the system.
- If the Press can Perfect, tick this option. (A Perfecting Press  applies ink to both sides of a sheet of paper during a single pass).
  • Maximum Sheet Width
  • Maximum Sheet Weight 
Measurements are entered according to either metric or imperial according to the region of the system. The values are according to what the machine accepts for ;
- Maximum sheet width and
- Maximum weight of the sheet that the press will allow.

PRESS RESTRICTIONSThe press restrictions are set as default within the press setup. They can be enabled or disabled within each estimate/job.
  • Non Print Image Side Area
  • Default Gutters
- Non Print Image Side Area - the area in both height and width (the area at the edge of the sheet that cannot be printed on)that.
- Default Gutters - the desired space between the items that are printed.
  • Set up Spoilage
  • Running Spoilage (%)
This is the estimated spoilage that may be expected on each job.
Values are entered according to either metric or imperial measurements for the regional settings of the system.
- Set up spoilage - the number of sheets that are wasted at the beginning of the print run.
- Running Spoilage - is entered as a percentage. It may accommodate for the amount of spoilage lost to a paper jam for instance.
  • Default Paper/Stock 1
  • Default Print Sheet Size
  • Default Job Size
This is the default paper/stock that is used most of the time when printing to the machine. A selection does not have to be made however click the plus symbol to select from your inventory.
Select the Default Sheet Size and Job Size that is printed. A selection is not required.
  • Default Plate
Select the Default Plate that is used in association with this press, it must be setup in the inventory section for a selection to be made by clicking the plus symbol.
  • Default Guillotine
Select the Default Guillotine that is used in association with this press, it must be setup in the system which is also in the Plant & Presses section.

PLANT CHARGES
  • Set up Charges ($)
  • Make Ready Charge for Plate ($)
If you want to charge customers a setup charge when this machine is used enter the value here. Charges applied for Sheet Work, Work n Turn, Work n Tumble
-It is a one off charge to cover the cost for the press operator to set up the press.
- Enter a charge for preparing the plate if desired.
  • Minimum Running Charge ($)
  • Wash Up Charge per Colour ($)
  • Mark Up (%)
- The minimum running charge is the minimum amount the system will charge for the press production time. If the press cost is calculated to be $200 and your minimum charge is set to $300, the $300 cost will be applied and the $200 calculated cost will be over-ridden.
- If you want to apply a charge for wash up for each colour used, enter the value
- Apply a percentage markup value by entering it in this location.


4. Click Next.


5. The next screen addresses the calculation method and ink settings associated with the press.


When initially setting up a press, it is recommended to enter the values at cost price, then create some test estimates before determining mark-up values. 




FIELDDESCRIPTION
 Calculation MethodSpeed/Weight Lookup is used for Offset calculations.
Press Hourly ChargeAs the label indicates, the Press Hourly Charge is the cost that is applied to the machine for its use on an hourly basis. It includes the running & labour costs of the machine (electricity, maintenance)
Matrix SetupThe matrix is filled out according to a typical run speed using 3 paper weight measures. The values entered in the matrix, are used in conjunction with other Press costs including the Hourly Press charge.
The Run Length is entered in values across the top (horizontal) of the matrix.
The weight (in gsm or lbs) is entered in the first column (vertically). Enter three values, the smallest, middle and highest values of typical paper weight.

INKS

Select the Inks to be assigned to the Press
Must select the inks to be assigned to the press, and determine whether to use the ink yield or a matrix. When you create your inks you can choose from either ink yield or matrix.
Ink 1, 2, 3..Click on the plus symbol against each Ink value to select an Ink from your inventory list to assign to the machine.
If you have not already created your inks in the inventory module, click the plus symbol and choose Add New Ink.
Ensure the first ink is the black ink.
Number of Colour UnitsThe number of colour units the press has.
Default Number of ColourThe default number of coloured inks to be used in estimates and jobs.
Default Ink Coverage (%)The default percentage of the sheet that is going to be printed.


6. Click Save.
